A major shopping center that has been a key part of its community for many years encountered significant issues in its rooftop parking area. The problem stemmed from a mechanical expansion joint that had failed, leading to compromised functionality. This also caused leaks to the levels below, creating disruptions and challenges for several retail spaces.

Following an assessment of the rooftop’s condition, Surfex was engaged to carry out the refurbishment. Their
experience in installing high-performance systems made them the ideal choice for tackling this task.

Solution

The project began with the complete decommissioning and removal of all existing failed mechanical expansion joints. Surfex’s team then meticulously cleaned, prepared, and profiled the joint interfaces to create an optimal surface for the new installation.

To address shopping centre’s specific challenges, Willseal® 250B was chosen as the replacement system. Known for its superior flexibility, waterproofing qualities, and long-term performance, Willseal® 250B was an ideal match for the rooftop parking structure. The system’s advanced design allowed it to withstand the demands of heavy vehicle traffic and environmental exposure, offering reliable protection against water ingress and structural motion.
